Meet KB instructor Breanne Curran

A personal trainer, Breanne found kettlebells in 2007 at just the right time. Grappling with trauma both physical (a severe hamstring tear from sprinting stairs and boxing) and emotional (supporting her then-husband through culinary school while caring for her young nephew after her sister was hospitalized), she needed low-impact exercise that would help her relieve stress.

Kettlebells—and Kettlebility—hit the bull’s eye.

“When I put my hands on a bell, I learned that the rest of the world goes away,” Breanne says. For six years, Breanne took twice-a-week classes at Kettlebility. She used kettlebells to train her own students. But when Breanne moved and started training at a different studio, closer to home, her form started to fall apart. She returned to Kettlebility for private coaching with Andrea in 2017. She started teaching at the studio in fall 2019.

Long and lean, Breanne is a former cross-country runner. She insists she’s not a natural athlete, but rather a tenacious learner. While endurance comes naturally to her, strength does not. She thinks facing her own strength challenges helps her be a better instructor.

“I have to practice hard for a long time and stay patient and practice forgiveness,” she says. But for Breanne, the mental and physical benefits of the bells make the hard work worthwhile. “It’s kind of like a surfer might feel when they touch the water. Everything goes quiet, my body relaxes. I have clarity and happiness—and I have fun.” Breanne adds: “They help calm my nervous system and improve my mood: They are my anti-depressant.”

Her certs include SFG 1, GFM1 &2, FMS 1, DVRT (Dynamic Variable Resistance Training/ Sandbags), NSCA Certified Personal Trainer.

The Tenacious Breanne is still chasing the Strong First Bodyweight cert. (She’s twice completed the two-day course—still working on that pesky required one-arm push up.) She holds a B.S. in Society and Justice from the University of Washington. She earned her nutrition specialist designation from the American Academy of Sports Dieticians and Nutritionists and earned her holistic health coach certification after attending the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.

My good friend Colleen, who taught me how to get over myself and show up better for my nephew. And, Andrea U-Shi Chang – for staying patient and believing in me 🙂
